About

Ariel Hansen Strong is a book artist, printmaker, designer, and educator based in San Francisco, CA. Her work often centers on socio-environmental concepts, as she is strongly influenced by her surroundings, by material, and by emotional, scientific, and political attachments to physical forms and spaces.  Much of Ariel’s work relies heavily on metaphor as a way of threading together various physical and mental entities. She often explores through process, and is inspired to test the perceived limitations of any given structure or medium.

Strong received her MFA in Book Art & Creative Writing from Mills College in 2015.  She is the founder of Cloudship Creative, a vendor of printed goods and handmade works that explores her alternative creative ego.

In 2018, Strong was selected to be a Small Plates Imprint Publication artist with the San Francisco Center for the Book.  In 2019, she was awarded a grant to be an Artist-in-Residence at In Cahoots Residency in Petaluma, CA.  She has exhibited internationally, and has work in special collections libraries and in private collections across the United States.
